Men’s Health

Australian men enjoy better health and life expectancy than men in most other countries. Life expectancy continues to rise faster than that of women.

Despite this, we know that when it comes to health;

· men tend not to engage with health screening (41% of men have never had a cancer screening test vs 5% of women),

· men engage in more risky behaviours than women risks (men are 2.6X more likely than women to die from injury),

· men are 3X more likely to suicide than women and more likely to develop substance use disorders and antisocial behaviours

· men tend not to utilise health services until they are “properly” sick, or until dragged in by a partner. This is especially a problem with mental health issues where men are even more reluctant to engage.

The Village GPs are looking for opportunities to help men to feel better supported in maintaining good health and wellness
