Welcome
Welcome to The Village Medical Practice. Our owners, Dr Stuart and Dr Ellie, are both GPs here and are originally from Scotland, where it was common to visit your family doctor in the doctor’s own home. We wanted to bring that feeling to Harrisdale.
So our waiting room is a lounge. There are comfortable couches, high-backed reading chairs, a dining table for feeding little ones, original artwork on the walls and a digital aquarium in the children’s corner. We chose our team for kindness as well as skill.
When you see one of our doctors, we want to know you, not just your symptoms, and to build a health plan with you that we have worked out together. Pull up a chair.

A practice for the whole family
We look after families: babies, teenagers, parents and grandparents, often under one roof and with the same doctor over many years. Family practice like this is rarer than it used to be, and we hold on to it.
Experienced, hand-picked GPs
Each of our GPs was chosen one by one, for their experience and their manner. Between them they cover a broad range of special interests, from children’s and women’s health to chronic disease and men’s health. Meet the team.
A home, not a waiting room
Our waiting room is a living room, with leather sofas and a fireplace. Our baristas at The Bothy offer every patient a complimentary drink while they wait.
Time
We give you the time you need, without rushing. Appointments are 15 to 20 minutes depending on your doctor, and you can book a longer one when you have more to talk about.

- ContraceptionConfidential, judgement-free advice on contraception, including the pill, implants, IUDs and emergency contraception.
- Gender IdentityA welcoming, confidential place to talk about gender identity, with support, advice and referral at your own pace.
- Heart Health ChecksA dedicated GP check of your risk of heart attack or stroke over the next five years, and a plan to lower it.
- Iron Deficiency and Iron InfusionsWhy iron runs low, what your blood tests mean, and how we treat it, including iron infusions in our nurses' treatment room.
- Men's Health ChecksA preventative check-up for men: heart, diabetes, cancer screening, mental health and sexual health, matched to your age and history.

The Bothy
Coffee's on us
The Bothy is our coffee shop, right inside the practice. Our own baristas offer every patient a complimentary drink on arrival, and the doors are open to the public too, so neighbours and passers-by are always welcome. In Scotland, a bothy is a mountain shelter whose door is always open.

Your first visit
- Bring photo ID, your Medicare card and any concession or DVA cards. We can’t start a first appointment without photo ID. What to bring
- We are a private-billing practice, and our fees are published openly. Fees and billing for new patients
- Immunisations, procedures and dressings are booked with a nurse, so please call us to arrange these. Booking the right appointment
